Seasonality in Household Expenditure

Most categories of expenditure show a peak in December associated with Christmas and end of year event spending (eg hotels and cafes, recreation and culture). The least seasonal categories of spending include transport, food and health, with health being the only categories in which spending is actually less in December. Clothing and footwear spending peaks at mid and end of year ahead of each seasonal change, reflecting the purchase of summer and winter wardrobes.
